Super Amazing Dome of Breathing
The thoracic diaphragm is this beautiful dome-shaped muscle that allows us to decrease intra-thoracic pressure to facilitate inhalation, and increase that pressure to allow exhalation. It is linked to the circulatory system as the aorta and vena cava pass through it. The esophagus also passes through this fantastic muscle. With an anatomy like this, its little wonder why breathing can be linked to musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal and circulatory function.

SuperWOMANS. Like Supermans but better!
You know Supermans... that drill where you lie on your belly and lift your arms and legs. Ever do this drill and get a little back pain? A pinching sensation? Straight up OUCH?
The deal with this drill is that the way it's done often brings in the big prime movers first, without letting the small stabilizers do their thing. Why is this a problem? Watch and find out. |

This is the thing that literally fixed me...
This and the Turkish Get Up.
Some of you know that I had a disc injury and surgery to repair it. After the surgery, although very successful, I still needed to learn how to better move, The goblet squat helped me to gain the trunk stability that my hips were craving, and moved me from 'panicked to drop something on the floor cuz it was a mess trying to bend down' to rolling, Turkish get up-ing and all of the things. A history of low back dysfunction is often paired with tight hips. Take a look at this if that sounds like you or one of your patients. |
